2011 A+ Teacher Award
The DaVinci Institute is honoring four Oklahoma professors, one Oklahoma A+ School teacher and ten pre-service teachers for their creative endeavors on March 25that the Oklahoma History Center.
The goal of the DaVinci Institute is to nurture the arts, sciences, humanities and education in Oklahoma through academic and community partnerships as these fields undergo transformations in the twenty-first century. The vision of the DaVinci Institute is to improve the quality of education in Oklahoma so as to help Oklahomans carry their creative talents to the world.
The speaker, Dr. Robert Sternberg, Senior Vice President and Provost at Oklahoma State University, is a leading researcher on intelligence and creativity and will speak on “Creativity is a Decision.”
The DaVinci Fellows award for faculty is based on the premise that creative thought and insight are fundamental components of extraordinary scholarship and teaching across all academic disciples, said DaVinci Institute President, Dr. Von Underwood, Dean of Fine Arts, Cameron University. Faculty awards include a medal embossed with Leonardo DaVinci’s Vitruvien Man and $1000.
Glenda Cook, an Oklahoma A+ Teacher® at Monroe Elementary in Norman, will receive the A+ Award.
Also, the DaVinci Institute will recognize ten DaVinci/Martin Scholars, undergraduate students who are preparing to teach in Oklahoma and who have demonstrated creativity, academic achievement and a commitment to teaching. Students will receive $3000 in their first year of teaching.
The DaVinci Institute promotes a new Oklahoma renaissance and to do that by promoting intellectual innovation.

The Art of Nelson Shanks: Intersection of History & Personality
On Tuesday, January 31, 2006, DaVinci Institute and the Greater Oklahoma City Downtown College Consortium hosted a Public Lecture featuring Nelson Shanks , one of the world's preeminent portraitists. Described by the National Gallery of Art Chief of Exhibits as "the most talented contemporary traditional portraitist," Mr. Shanks has been commissioned to paint portraits of some of the world’s most famous and powerful individuals of recent years including Pope John Paul II, Diana, Princess of Wales, Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, Luciano Pavarotti, and numerous others.

On Tuesday, October 11, 2005, the DaVinci Institute hosted a successful Master Class and Public Lecture by David Kennard at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art Noble Theater.
Mr. Kennard is an award-winning documentarian, whose work includes Cosmos with Carl Sagan, We the People with Peter Jennings, The Hero's Journey with Joseph Campbell, and The Promise of Play with Jane Goodall.
